Songs from the Nickel

På filmfestivalen i höstas var en av de filmerna som gjorde störst intryck på oss en dokumentär som heter ”Songs from the Nickel”, av polskfödda regissören Alina Skrzeszewska.  Hon var nyfiken på att göra en film om Los Angeles baksida, området ”The Nickel”, och flyttade därför till ett hotell i stadsdelen, där hon filmade  sina upplevelser och de människor hon mötte. Eftersom vi ville veta mer om bakgrunden till filmen och arbetet kring den, mailade vi henne några frågor som vi publicerar här nedan.

” ”Downtown” (Los Angeles) - is a layered place where a lot of things are happening at the same time. There are film shoots, homeless people, architects, skaters, drugs, police, ambulances, old people, immigrants, crazy people, artists, yuppies, beautiful old buildings and all those people who are so difficult to classify, some of which I show in my movie. The fact that there are so many different things that don’t seem to go together, but are right on top of each other, is fascinating.”
